"FOOD FOR THOUGHT"
BY THE REV. BENNY REPPOND
We choose to follow the devils
by refusing to surrender our
lives to Jesus
Psalms 59:2 NKJV - "Deliver me from the workers of iniquity, and save me from bloodthirsty men." NKJV
Have you ever felt like someone was out to get you? I remember back to my school days when we would get thumbtacks and put them in other student's desk chairs and watch them sit down on it. Even doing these mischievous deeds, we all knew what the consequences would be. If that person found out who had put the tak in their chair, they were going to pay back.
Every time I would come in I would always check my chair for that tack, but one day I was in a hurry and was distracted by something and flopped down in my chair, when suddenly I remembered to check for the tack. But it was too late, and that famous saying of "Gotcha" stuck home.
You are probably saying, "You got what you deserved," and that is true, but it didn't stop me from trying to pay the person back who had put the tack in my chair if I could find them.
There is someone out to get all of us and that is the devil. Whether you believe in him or not does not change the reality that he exits; just as you know that God exits and has shown his love for mankind by giving his Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins, the devil shows us his hate for mankind by trying to destroy it.
The devil is the cause of wars; trying to get us to kill one another, he is the cause of disease that destroys mankind. The Bible tells us that the devil comes to steal, kill and destroy but Jesus has come to give life and that more abundantly.
John 10:10
"The thief cometh not, but for to steal and to kill and to destroy: I am come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly." KJV
Why would any of us want to follow someone who hates us and wants to destroy us? But that is exactly what we are doing when we refuse to surrender our life unto Jesus. We are given a choice of who we will follow. The Bible tells us that life and death are before us; choose life that you may live in the presence of God forever. That life that is spoken of is Jesus; he is the way, truth and life, and no one comes unto the Father except through him. I encourage you today to change from following the destroyer of your soul and begin to follow Jesus and let him give unto you life everlasting.
